Partitioned Penalty Methods for the Evolutionary Stokes-darcy-transport Problem

چکیده
There has been a surge of work on models for coupling surface-water with groundwater flows which is at its core the Stokes-Darcy problem, as well as methods for uncoupling the problem into subdomain, subphysics solves. The resulting (Stokes-Darcy) fluid velocity is important because the flow transports contaminants. The numerical analysis and algorithm development for the evolutionary transport problem has, however, focused on a quasi-static Stokes-Darcy model and a single domain (fully coupled) formulation of the transport equation. This report presents a numerical analysis of a partitioned method for contaminant transport for the fully evolutionary system. The algorithms studied are unconditionally stable with one subdomain solve per step.

Long time stability of four methods for splitting the evolutionary Stokes-Darcy problem into Stokes and Darcy subproblems
A . This report analyzes the long time stability of four methods for non-iterative, sub-physics, uncoupling for the evolutionary Stokes-Darcy problem. The four methods uncouple each time step into separate Stokes and Darcy solves using ideas from splitting methods. Three methods uncouple sequentially while one is a parallel uncoupling method. We prove long time stability of four splitting based...

We present an overview of a modern, efficient approach for uncoupling groundwater–surface water flows governed by the fully evolutionary Stokes–Darcy equations. Referred to as non-iterative partitioned methods, these algorithms treat the coupling terms explicitly and at each time level require only one Stokes and one Darcy sub-physics solve, thus taking advantage of existing solvers optimized f...

In this report, a partitioned time stepping algorithm which allows different time steps in the fluid region and the porous region is analyzed for the fully evolutionary Stokes-Darcy problem. This method requires only one, uncoupled Stokes and Darcy sub-physics and sub-domain solve per time step. Under a modest time step restriction of the form 4t ≤ C where C = C(physical parameters) we prove ze...
متن کاملAnalysis of Long Time Stability and Errors of Two Partitioned Methods for Uncoupling Evolutionary Groundwater-Surface Water Flows
The most effective simulations of the multi-physics coupling of groundwater to surface water must involve employing the best groundwater codes and the best surface water codes. Partitioned methods, which solve the coupled problem by successively solving the sub-physics problems, have recently been studied for the Stokes-Darcy coupling with convergence established over bounded time intervals (wi...

This report analyzes a partitioned time stepping algorithm, meaning a non-iterative, domain decomposition method, which allows different time steps in the fluid region and the porous region for the fully evolutionary Stokes-Darcy problem. The method presented requires only one, uncoupled Stokes and Darcy sub-physics and sub-domain solve per time step. Under a time step restriction of the form 4...
